School of Motion Pictures & Television

Hello, my name is Dominic Waters. I go by Dom mostly. I was born in San Pablo, California, and have lived most of my early life in the Bay Area. After high school in Texas, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I like to think of my time there as my vision quest: it shaped my character, and imbued in me traits that have aided me tremendously: dedication, honor, commitment, attention to detail.
I found the love of my life in the Marines: cage fighting. It’s all I wanted to do. Afer ending my servie, I made my way into the elite cage fighting organization. But then one wrong move took me from fighting and training with the best in the world, to enduring a nasty knee injury that brought a painful halt to my fighting days.
Floating aimlessly around, in limbo working at odd jobs in the tech industry, cybersecurity, and engineering residential and business network systems, my life changed when a customer on his houseboat told me, “You get busy living or dying.”
That was the motivation I needed to enroll in Academy of Art University, starting off in Photography and switching to Directing in the School of Motion Pictures & Television Department. As a filmmaker feel like I am leaving my fingerprint on the world through my art. That is my I love most about making films.
