Michal Rezoni
I am a multidisciplinary designer working at the intersection of fashion history, material innovation, and cultural storytelling. My practice centers on reimagining systems of value whether in buildings, textiles, or narratives, to challenge existing material hierarchies and aesthetics.
In my current work, I reconstruct historically significant garments from the late 19th and mid-20th centuries using repurposed denim and reclaimed silk. I view sustainability not as an aesthetic trend, but as a critical design methodology. By translating haute couture silhouettes into functional, reclaimed materials, I aim to redefine contemporary luxury through the lens of longevity and material integrity.
Beyond the studio, my research extends into education. Through my children’s book, Miri and Jade’s New Clothes, I introduce the next generation to the concepts of textile waste and creative transformation. My goal is to foster environmental responsibility grounded in historical awareness and a commitment to sustainable practice.

Iconic Threads Reimagined

Thesis Statement: Iconic Threads Reimagined Michal Rezoni | MFA Fashion Design Iconic Threads Reimagined is a research-driven fashion design thesis that interrogates the intersection of fashion history, sustainable material transformation, and educational practice. This body of work critically reinterprets canonical silhouettes from the 1870s through the 1970s, positioning post-consumer textiles specifically reclaimed denim and silk ties as primary design mediums. Through a methodology of historical analysis and pattern deconstruction, this project investigates how the formal intelligence of designers such as Charles James, Yves Saint Laurent, and Claire McCardell can be translated into a contemporary context. Rather than mere replication, this thesis employs adaptive reuse as a conceptual framework to disrupt traditional material hierarchies. By reconstructing historically “coded” luxury silhouettes in rugged workwear textiles like denim, the collection challenges the narrative of labor and the environmental consequences of fashion production This collection serves as a retrospective of structural innovation, reconstituted through 100% reclaimed materials.
