Hi, I’m Charlotte! I’m a Bay Area native currently living in San Francisco. I earned my undergraduate degree in Graphic Design from the Academy of Art University and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Art Education there as well. I’ve worked in childcare for many years, and I’m excited to follow a path where I can combine my passion for working with young people and my love of art. I’m currently assisting in the art classroom at the middle school I once attended, and I look forward to leading my own classroom in the near future.
Lesson Plan Inspiration:
This piece was created shortly after I began working with oil pastels again for the first time since childhood. I chose tomatoes as my subject because their simple forms felt approachable and allowed me to focus on exploring the medium rather than getting overwhelmed by details. Through this process, I was able to experiment with layering and blending techniques in a low-pressure way.
This experience directly inspired my lesson plan, which is designed as an introductory skill building activity. By creating a loose still life, students can focus on developing familiarity with oil pastels while building confidence in their observational and blending skills. The project also encourages personalization by allowing students to choose their own objects, making the process more engaging.
