Reconnection: Lawrence Square Shopping Center Revitalization
This project revitalizes an underused commercial site by strengthening street-facing activity and introducing a small number of residential units to support a mixed-use community. The design restores land previously compacted by driveways, replacing hard surfaces with native planting and historically cultivated agricultural species that reference the site’s productive past. By reconnecting people to the street, the project creates a more active, welcoming, and socially engaged public edge. Outdoor spaces are designed to celebrate agricultural heritage, encourage everyday interaction, and invite residents, visitors, and neighbors to gather, walk, linger, and participate in a renewed community landscape.
