Ju Hyun (Astrid) Hong is a sound designer and aspiring Foley artist from South Korea, currently pursuing her studies in the United States. With a foundation in traditional Korean music, particularly the Gayageum, she has developed a nuanced sensitivity to sound, texture, and auditory detail. Her academic focus shifted during the pandemic from performance to film sound, where she became interested in sound design as a critical component of narrative construction. Her work is particularly informed by Foley practices, emphasizing the recreation of both everyday and imagined sounds. She is especially interested in how sound can articulate experiences beyond direct personal encounter, using audio to construct and convey unfamiliar or unseen realities. By integrating her musical training with contemporary sound design methodologies, she seeks to produce immersive and conceptually grounded sonic environments for film and visual media.
