My passion for interior design grew from a deep curiosity about how spaces can shape the way people feel, gather, and connect. Alaria embodies that belief. It began not just as a restaurant concept, but as an exploration of how design can root a place in its environment and serve its community. Designing a farm-to-fresh seafood dining experience in Mission Bay meant listening to the coastline, its textures, its rhythms, its relationship to the water. I was drawn to the challenge of translating that coastal identity into every material choice, spatial flow, and detail. Weaving clean Japanese aesthetics with organic forms and soft, natural palettes to create something that felt both intentional and alive. For me, interior design is about more than aesthetics, it’s about creating environments that tell a story and give people a reason to be present. Alaria reflects that conviction, and it deepened my understanding of design as a form of place-making that can celebrate craft, culture, and community all at once.
